Class Descriptions

Unless otherwise mentioned, all classes are suitable for the beginner or advanced sewer.
20% deposit required to confirm bookings
(Refunds will only be given if cancelled 3 weeks prior to the date of workshop or a replacement found).

Class at Gumnut Gear StudioGENERAL SEWING - This is a regular class and covers all aspects of sewing. The student will learn to sew the garment or article of their choice with supervision and guidance. This can include anything from clothing to curtains, patchwork to getting the most from your overlocker, any aspect of sewing. Suitable for the beginner or advanced sewer. This class is available day or evening and can be joined at any time.


SUNDAY SEWING - In each class you can see and try something new, you can make a small project using your new skill or finish a UFO or start something new of your choice. It's all about having a lovely day sewing with all the help you need right at hand. Nothing is a problem, so bring it along. Limited Numbers, Bookings are essential.


MYSTERY QUILT WEEKEND - Come and join in on the fun of a Mystery Quilt. Arrive to find your fabrics ready to go, following the step by step instructions with Therese and you will end up with a lovely surprise. (Fabrics are arranged prior to the day and can be pre cut for you or you may prefer to cut your own).
Morning, afternoon tea and lunch supplied. Deposit required.


MYSTERY QUILT MARATHON - This is a day for sew, sew, sew. Start early and finish late with no interruptions. (Fabrics are arranged prior to the day and can be pre cut for you or you may prefer to cut your own). Morning, afternoon tea, lunch and dinner supplied. Deposit required.


JUNIOR SEWING - Now after school. Dressmaking, patchwork, cushions and bags are some of the things covered in these classes. The girls learn how to prepare patterns, measuring, correct cutting, how to use a sewing machine and more.


GET THE MOST OUT OF YOUR OVERLOCKER - Learn what your overlocker can do. In this class you will learn Threading, Flat locking, Rolled hemming, Basic Maintenance and more. Deposit required.


SEWING AT THE SHOP - Join in on the Thursday workshops with Therese at Gunnedah Fashion Fabrics. Held on the 2nd Thursday of each month. You can work on your UFO’s or start something new, with all the help and guidance you need.


DISAPPEARING 9 PATCH AT THE SHOP - Make a quilt top using the Disappearing 9 patch technique, you will be surprised with the result. Deposit required.


JELLY ROLL RACE AT THE SHOP - This is such a quick and easy quilt. Take a Jelly Roll and some border fabrics and see the colour unfold. Deposit required.


SAMPLER QUILT AT THE SHOP - This is a 6 part course where you will learn all the basics of Patchwork, drawing and making templates from a diagram, cutting, marking and sewing the blocks together by hand or machine. It is designed for the beginner patchworker or anyone that just wants to know more. Each class works towards making a sampler quilt. Deposit required, full payment required 1 week before commencement.

BAG MAKING DAY - This is the day to get your bag making questions answered. Make the bag of your choice using some of my short cuts and tips to get that more professional finish. Morning tea and lunch supplied.

LUCY’S QUILT OR TWIST AND TURN - Easy hexagons are the way to go with Lucy’s quilt, with a minimum of 6 fabrics and a 60 degree ruler, Therese will take you through the preparation, cutting and sewing hexagons the easy way.

Use fats or scraps with the 60 degree ruler and twist and turn your way to make this quilt

CREATIVE CUTTING - Let your creative side out and have fun. You will learn how freehand cut and join the pieces together to create something wonderful and original.
Morning, afternoon tea lunch supplied.


ATTACK THE STASH - Bring along a bag, tub, box or draw of scraps and fats. Learn how to best sort and store them. Then work on one of several projects using your fabrics. Pattern of your choice supplied. 1 or 2 day workshop, Morning tea and lunch supplied.

WHY NOT CURVES? -This class will take the fear out of sewing curved seams, use a Drunkards Path pattern in a variety of sizes and make a bag, quilt or table runner. 1 or 2 day workshop, Morning tea and lunch supplied.


LETS GET QUILTING -This is the day to get your quilting questions answered. We will cover different types of wadding, talk about backings and how to sandwich your quilt ready for quilting. Then we will start quilting—in the ditch, channeling, diagonally, stippling, all over meandering and other free hand stitching. 1 day workshop, Morning tea and lunch supplied.


LOG CABIN MADE EASY - In this class you will be shown how to cut, arrange and sew a log cabin quilt with ease. You can use fabrics from your stash or plan your colours. 1 day workshop, Morning tea and lunch supplied.


SAMPLER QUILT, LEARN THE BASICS - Starting with graph paper and a pencil, learn how to draft the blocks, make templates, choose fabrics and sew it all together to make a lovely Sampler Quilt. This class is also available as a correspondence course. 8 x 3 hour classes.


STACK 'N' SLASH -Bring along a bag, tub, box or draw of scraps and fats. Learn how to best sort and store them, then work on one of several projects using your fabrics. Pattern of your choice supplied. 1 day workshop, Morning tea and lunch supplied.

CIRCLES -Learn how to cut and insert circles so that they sit flat and smooth. Several projects available to choose from. (This requires a special ruler and cutter both are available from Therese)


FOUNDATION PATCHWORK WITH A TWIST - Learn the basics of the traditional foundation patchwork and get creative, the accurate and easy way. Therese will show you how to step away from the traditional methods saving many hours tearing away papers.
